Easter Bunny Hops into Kingwood for Fifth Annual Picnic on the Park Print E-mail

The Easter Bunny will be hopping into town just in time for the expanded Picnic on the Park event this spring.  A Ladies Luncheon and Easter Bonnet Contest will be held at the Nathaniel Center Wednesday, March 12, followed by the annual egg hunt, community fair and newly added coloring contest and “Kingwood Idol” karaoke competition Saturday, March 22 at Kingwood Town Center Park.

“Proceeds from both events will benefit the Village Learning & Achievement Center – our fourth year to support this local charity,” says event committee member Carla Alvarez of Legacy Marketing Services.  Donations and participation by area businesses make this event successful and fun for everyone in our community while supporting this vital charity’s programs for individuals with disabilities.”

The spring event will kick off with the third annual Ladies Luncheon and Easter Bonnet Contest March 12 at the Nathaniel Center.  The luncheon will begin with the opportunity to browse through exclusive items featured by local vendors, savor food prepared by Amedeo’s and enjoy a “One Woman Fashion Show,” presented by Cathy Fitzpatrick, featuring 2008 fashion trends.  Easter bonnet awards will be given in several categories to honor exceptional bonnets.   Luncheon tickets are $35 and are limited. Reserved tables of eight are available.  To purchase individual or group tickets, call 713.289.0819.

The luncheon will be followed on Saturday, March 22 with the highlight of Picnic on the Park --- featuring a free Easter egg hunt in Town Center Park from 10 am to noon.  “Since the inaugural year, the event has grown in attendance to over 6,000, with families planning their Easter weekend around the festivities,” Alvarez notes.  Twenty thousand Easter eggs are filled in preparation for the day, and over 100 vendors, craft booths, game booths and sponsors fill the park to satisfy the interests of the teeming crowds. Many other activities will be available throughout the day, including live entertainment, raffles, coloring contests and “Kingwood Idol” karaoke competition.

“Local businesses sponsor game booths for the kids each year, and our vendor fair continues to grow,” explains Alvarez. “Sponsorship of both Picnic on the Park events is a wonderful opportunity to highlight your business while supporting the needs of the Village Learning & Achievement Center.  We are receiving applications for booths now and encourage businesses to reserve their space early.”

Sponsorships and vendor opportunities for the luncheon and the main Picnic on the Park event are available by calling Carla Alvarez at 713-289-0819 or visit www.picniconthepark.com.
